Description: A medium- to large-sized tree with a rounded crown. Occurs on wet bottomlands soils and flood plains. Often associated with willow oak. The acorns are eaten by many species of wildlife. Water oak is a member of the "Red/Black" oak group whose leaf veins extend past the leaf margin to form bristles. Acorns mature in the fall of the second year. It is a relatively fast growing oak and is often planted as an ornamental.
